In the first feature film to come out of Saudi Arabia, Haifaa Al Mansour tells the story of a girl and her big dream. With her debut film, the Saudi director and screenwriter tells the touching story of the ten-year-old girl Wadjda, who is growing up in the suburbs of Riyadh and sets out to realize her dreams with courage and humor, even when faced with strict conventions.
The film shows a differentiated and authentic image of life for Saudi women and conveys a unique inside view of the culture and society there.
