Look Into Our Exhibitions
How can we reconcile our actions with the needs of our planet, and how can we keep track of the growing complexity of our lives? That is the subject of the current exhibitions »Critical Zones. Observatories for Earthly Politics« and »BarabásiLab. Hidden Patterns. Network Thinking«. The following videos provide insight into the exciting exploration of various topics.
Hot off the Press – ZKM Publications
Since its foundation in 1989, the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe has issued more than 550 publications. Various topics, such as contemporary art, music, and dance, are represented and have found their place with internationally renowned art and science publishers.
Research and Development
The ZKM is not just a museum – it is a future laboratory for art and society in the digital age and connects research, natural sciences, technology and art. In cooperation with partner institutes, an international network and the ZKM | Hertz-Lab, which researches current topics such as artificial intelligence or virtual reality together with guest artists and scientists, the ZKM continuously develops new formats on current issues. The Hertz-Lab provides, among other things, an insight into its work in its streaming series »#hertzlab«.
Electronic Music
The Hertz-Lab, with its sounddom, equipped with around 47 loudspeakers arranged in a dome-shaped setup, also produces and researches electronic music. Following the continuous developments in technology, a lively musical exchange between artists and scientists takes place, culminating in the annual awarding of the Giga-Hertz Prize.
The Intelligent Museum
How can experiences in museums be redesigned, and what new ways of communicating mediation in museums are opening up to us? Since 2020, the ZKM, together with the Deutsches Museum in Munich and the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB) in Karlsruhe, has been developing exhibition concept supported by artificial intelligence (AI) and, together with international artists, is illuminating the socially relevant topic of AI from a wide variety of perspectives.

SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE 2021
Since 2015, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the city of Karlsruhe, the Karlsruhe Castle has been dressed annually in a luminous garment of artistic projections.
Digitalization in Dialogue
How is digitization changing social coexistence, and how can this change be shaped to benefit all? The interdisciplinary research project »digilog@bw« provides an insight into research and invites lively exchange with the public.
Computer Art
The collection of the ZKM comprises about 9,000 works of 20th and 21st-century art and impresses with a unique array of computer-based installations, videotapes and video installations. In an exchange with artists, theorists, curators and restorers, the monthly discussion series »The Art of...« provides insight into this collection.
