11th Women’s Perspectives. Women – Perspectives – Change
20 Years of the Women’s Cultural Festival! … and in the Future?
Sun, April 17, 2011
- Location
- Media Theater
How topical are women’s cultural festivals? What is the picture of women that characterizes the art and culture scene? How important is the feminist movement for young women? Are “Mädchenmannschaften” and blog culture at odds with activists and those fighting for women’s rights? These questions and more will be discussed publicly in a three-day, academically-oriented conference. Renowned veterans from the feminist movement, such as the founder of feminism in the area of film, Helke Sander, film director Madeleine Bernstorff, and feminist researcher Prof. Dr. Ute Gerhard, are but a few of the speakers who along with participants from other areas, such as journalism, law, sociology, and politics, will engage with the question:
“20 Years of the Women’s Cultural Festival! ... and in the Future?”
An international “women’s perspective” is also part of the conference. Speaking on the panel will be, among others, Veronika Dreier, artist, curator, and journalist from Austria, who declared Graz the “Intergalactic Center for Superwomen,” together with Camille Morineau, curator of a special exhibition – elles@centrepompidou – which caused a stir in Paris in 2010. The series of lectures and panel discussions will be supplemented and framed by art and culture contributions in the areas of music, fine arts, literature, video, film, and art performance.
