Herbert Fischer: Ozone hole in the future

Help from the ENVISAT Environmental Satellite

Prof. Dr. Herbert Fischer [Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research, Atmospheric Trace Gases and Remote Sensing Department, Karlsruhe Research Centre]:

Scientists may be able to explain how the hole in the ozone layer came about, but they are not in a position to predict how the depletion of the ozone in the atmosphere will proceed in the decades to come. Measuring instruments are installed on board the ENVISAT satellite that measure a series of trace gases in the atmosphere. The lecture explains how these measurements contribute to a better understanding of developments in the atmosphere and thus to more accurate predictions of what will happen to the ozone layer.
