The ZKM | Karlsruhe is honoring the work of the Stuttgart-based artist Ulrich Bernhardt (*1942) with an exhibition called »Ulrich Bernhardt. NOW: It was, will be and is«. Bernhardt is one of the most important pioneers of media art in Baden-Württemberg.
Bernhardt is a video and installation artist who's been thinking about how current technologies and social change relate to Greek mythology since the early 1970s. He's especially interested in how big-tech developments, like nuclear power, and their consequences, shape our awareness. At the heart of the exhibition are two installations by the artist from the ZKM collection, »The River« (1978) and »The Sarcophagus« (1996), which deal with different aspects of time, transience, and duration.
»The Story That Never Ends. The ZKM Collection«
The exhibition takes place in the project room of the collection exhibition »The Story That Never Ends. The ZKM Collection«, where projects related to the collection and archive are presented. From April 5, 2025 the exhibition »Waldemar Cordeiro. Constellations« will be shown in the project room.
